A Glimpse Into WFS Preschool with Ms. Whitney

How is it that we are already in December? The last four months in preschool have flown by.  Our days are busy and filled with exploration, learning, and fun!

Here is just a glimpse into what we have been up to lately. Every morning brings a new adventure in the preschool hall.  If you come first thing in the morning you will catch us singing “Rise and Shine” or “It’s a Brand New Day.”  The kids know and love these songs and enjoy having them as a part of our morning circle time.

Our Preschoolers learn through play, which helps them develop social skills, creativity, and problem-solving abilities.  This includes both structured and unstructured play.  Every day we spend an hour outside split into 2 recesses.  This is free play for the kids to run and play and use their imaginations as they wish.  It’s amazing to watch their littlie minds run wild and watch them come up with so many creative things.

When we are not at recess you can probably find us listening to a story that goes along with our letter of the week.  This improves their language skills and instills a love of reading for their future.  Then we will do a hands-on craft that incorporates our letter of the week.  For instance we just finished with the letter H, and we made a paper plate hot chocolate mug; and then we all got to try some yummy hot chocolate.

The kids love when we make crafts, but they especially love when our craft involves food or drinks of any kind.  Engaging in crafts daily not only fosters their own individual creativity, but helps them gain fine motor skills and utilizes their imagination.  Our main goal at preschool is to make sure our children are having fun in a safe environment, while learning and gaining the skills they need to prepare them for future learning experiences.
