Here at WFS we are all, students and teachers, hard at work learning and teaching all that we can. Our curriculum is jam-packed with information. Our language arts curriculum integrates language arts with history, geography, science, and even health!
Some examples from our ELA include our Kindergarten students learning about Native American culture and some of the different tribes who were here on the plains and around the US. First graders will be learning about ancient civilizations from around the world. Second grade will be studying the War of 1812, and third grade will get to study about other countries and how children in those lands learn in their schools.
Another positive aspect of our language arts and math curriculums is that they are 100 percent accessible to parents! Our math curriculum is built upon the previous years and constantly reviews as students gain more knowledge. Even though we are not bound by the State, we adhere to State standards and curriculum guidelines to better serve our students on their educational journey.
Benchmark testing (testing to see where the students are) is done three times throughout the school year, and from this information WFS teachers can adjust individual learning plans as needed. An amazing thing about WFS is the fluidity we have among our grades and classes. If a student is higher or lower than their same-grade peers in one subject area, that child can join another grade level for that specific subject, getting exactly what they need to be successful and building their academic confidence.
